Experience and History
I’m Michael Phelps, and I’m proud to hold the title of the most decorated Olympian in history. Throughout my career, I’ve won 28 gold medals, the most ever in Olympic history, and I’ve achieved the highest number of gold medals in individual Olympic events.
I made my Olympic debut at the Sydney 2000 Games when I was just 15 years old. Although I didn’t medal in Sydney, it was the beginning of an incredible journey that would shape my career.
At the Athens 2004 Olympics, I truly started to make my mark. I won six gold medals and two bronze medals, setting five world records along the way. It was a thrilling experience that solidified my place in the swimming world.
The Beijing 2008 Olympics were a defining moment for me. I won eight gold medals, breaking the previous record of seven gold medals held by Mark Spitz from 1972. It was an overwhelming accomplishment, showcasing my versatility and endurance across different swimming disciplines.

Skills and Attributes
Now that Michael Phelps has won an unmatched eight gold medals in this year’s Olympic Games, lots of journalists are asking what gives Phelps such a leg up on the competition (legally, of course, though allegations of doping have tainted other Beijing Olympians). Beyond Phelps’ drive to succeed, as reported by the Australian Broadcasting Company, and his undoubtedly good training, could it be that a good bit of his (as well as many athletes’) talent just boils down to simple anatomy?
